Members
of Postpartum Support of Oklahoma (P.S.O.) are dedicated to
supporting new mothers and their families by providing telephone
and e-mail contact, educating families and providers about
prenatal and postpartum mood issues, and developing a referral
network so that the bond between parents and children may be
enhanced.
Approximately
one in six new mothers experiences emotional distress during
the year following giving birth. About one in five women feels
anxious or depressed during pregnancy. We believe that mothers
need education and easy access to resources. In addition, it
is often helpful to be able to speak with other mothers who
have been in their position.
In order to establish these supports and form links to professional
services, families and the providers who care for them need to be aware
of information networks which exist nationally, statewide, and within
communities. We are the Oklahoma branch of Postpartum Support International
(P.S.I.), an information clearinghouse which shares resources about
postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mood issues.
